Recently, the results of the 2024 Mathematical Contest in Modeling and Interdisciplinary Applications (MCM/ICM) for American university students were announced, and a team of undergraduates from the School of Finance won the First Prize (Meritorious Winner).
MCM/ICM, hosted by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications, is one of the most influential mathematical modeling competitions for college students worldwide, covering a wide range of topics in economics, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, security, and more. The 2024 edition of the competition was held from February 2nd to February 6th, 2024, Beijing time. Under the careful guidance of Professor Yongbin Lv, the deputy director of the base, the team members Ding Ruiyan (Finance and Computer Science 2201), Yan Yihui (Finance and Computer Science 2201), and Huang Xinqi (Investment 2201) fully utilized their professional strengths, collaborated, and achieved the Meritorious Winner award.
All three award-winning students come from the School of Finance, with two of them enrolled in the dual-degree program combining Finance and Computer Science and Technology. Launched in 2020, this program aims to foster interdisciplinary talents that can adapt to the new developments in the financial industry, in line with the booming trend of financial technology and its widespread application in the financial sector. The program leverages the disciplinary strengths and professional characteristics of the School of Finance and the School of Information and Safety Engineering, promoting strong cooperation and complementary advantages to jointly cultivate professionals who are cross-disciplinary and suited for the financial industry. This award is also a significant achievement in cultivating outstanding talents at the talent introduction base.
