At 10:00 am, June 9, 2023, Professor Wei Xu of School of Information Technology, Renmin University of China was invited to give an online lecture entitled "Multimodal Data Analysis and Financial Innovation Application". Professor David Jin, Dean of the School of Information and Security Engineering of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law and co-director of the Base, presided over the lecture, and all graduate students of the School of Information and Security Engineering and the base researchers attended the lecture.At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Dawei Jin briefly introduced Professor Wei Xu's relevant information to the participants, and expressed his sincere thanks to him for taking time out of his busy schedule to conduct lectures for our institute.

This lecture was introduced by Professor Wei Xu from three aspects: Internet + and multimodal data, multimodal data analysis technology, and financial and business innovation application. He first gave an overview of big data, introduced the birth of big data and the characteristics of big data. It further brings out the challenges of big data and shows that traditional techniques are no longer suitable for big data analysis.

Professor Wei Xu proposed that big data analysis techniques mainly include distributed computing, complex information processing, real-time computing and incremental computing. This lecture mainly focuses on complex information processing. Then, Professor Wei Xu introduced big data fusion and innovative applications, and he proposed to integrate big transaction data and big interaction data for practical applications. And he also took his own research as an example to explain in detail the innovative application of multi-modal data in the fields of securities market forecasting, e-commerce sales forecasting, e-commerce live returns forecasting and so on.

Finally, the participants had an active academic exchange with Professor Wei Xu, who gave detailed answers to the questions and perplexities of the teachers and students. After the exchange, Professor Dawei Jin expressed his sincere thanks to Professor Wei Xu for his wonderful sharing. I believe that the teachers and students attending the seminar must have a deeper understanding of multi-modal data analysis and financial innovation application. Wei Xu, male, doctor, Director, professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Economic Information Management, School of Information Science, Renmin University of China. National young talent, Beijing Science and Technology Star, Beijing Outstanding talent, Renmin University of China outstanding scholar. Director of the Smart Campus Research Center and Deputy Director of the Smart City Research Center, Renmin University of China. Executive Director of China Society of Information Economics, director of China Society of Systems Engineering, deputy Secretary General of Information Systems Engineering Committee, editorial board member of Journal of Systems Engineering, guest editor of Internet Research, System Engineering Theory and Practice, Management Review and other domestic and foreign journals. His research interests include financial technology, business analytics, and intelligent social governance. He has presided over a number of projects at or above provincial and ministerial level such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Beijing Natural Science Foundation and Beijing Social Science Foundation. He has published more than 150 research papers and 6 books in top domestic and foreign journals and conferences such as ISR, POMS and IJCAI. He has won a number of teaching and research awards such as the second prize of national higher education teaching achievements, the first prize of Beijing Higher Education Teaching Achievements, and the second prize of Beijing Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award.

Frontier Forum for Digital Technology and Finance introduction

Recent years have witnessed a dramatic acceleration in a digital revolution in economic sectors and a rapid adoption of the new generation of information technologies, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, big data, etc. These technologies effectively set off the digital economy. To explore the development direction of the cross-integration of digital technology and finance, the Innovation and Talent Base for Digital Technology and Finance is hosting the “Frontier Forum for Digital Technology and Finance”, in collaboration with the School of Finance, Wenlan School of Business, Economics School, School of Information and Safety Engineering, School of Statistics and Mathematics, School of Public Finance and Taxation of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL).
