On April 19, 2023, at 2:30 pm, the 14th Forum on Digitization, Technology and Economics in Modern Finance was successfully held. The theme of this lecture was "Digital Transformation of Chinese Commercial Banks: Measurement, Progress, and Impact", and keynote speaker Dr. Xuanli Xie, researcher at the National Development Institute of Peking University, presented. The lecture was chaired by Professor Yongbin Lv, Vice Dean of the Finance School and Deputy Director of the Innovation and Talent Base for Digital Technology and Finance. Nearly 30 faculty members and students from the college attended the lecture.

First, Dr. Xie introduced the background of the construction of digital transformation indicators for Chinese commercial banks and the purpose of this research - to construct a set of digital transformation indicator system for commercial banks, to scientifically and comprehensively quantify the degree of digital transformation of Chinese commercial banks, and to provide measurement tools and references for research related to digital transformation of the banking industry.

Then, Dr. Xie detailed the index construction method from four aspects - index system, data source, index synthesis method, and changes in the index system for this period. Based on this, Dr. Xie continued to introduce the development trend of the index and some social phenomena discovered through the development trend of the index.

Afterwards, Dr. Xie briefly introduced the application of the digital transformation index of Chinese commercial banks from the perspectives of bank services to the real economy, bank operating performance, and risk. She also introduced a research literature titled "How Valuable is FinTech Adoption for Traditional Banks?" which she participated in to help everyone better understand the significance of the digital transformation of Chinese commercial banks.

Finally, Dr. Xie summarized the content of the lecture briefly and had academic exchanges with attending faculty and students. The forum ended successfully.

Speaker Introduction

Guotai Chi is a second-level professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Economics and Management, Dalian University of Technology. He holds a PhD in Management Science and Engineering. Dalian University of Technology "leading talent", Dalian local full-time high-level talent (leading talent). Director, Financial Risk and System Evaluation Management Research Center, Dalian University of Technology. As the first completed person, he won 1 third prize (Government award) for outstanding scientific research achievements (Humanities and Social Sciences) in higher education institutions of the Ministry of Education; Liaoning Province Philosophy and Social Science achievement Award second prize (government award)6. He has published more than 160 academic papers in Class A journals recognized by the Management Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Published 4 papers in AJG(ABS)3* journals such as Journal of the Operational Research society, International Journal of Finance and Economics. He has published 10 papers in AJG(ABS)2* journals such as Economic Modelling, Management Decision, Journal of Forecasting, etc. He has published 8 papers in AJG(ABS)1* journals such as Expert Systems With Applications, journal of Risk Model Validation, Journal of Credit Risk, etc. He has published more than 20 papers in other SSCI indexed international journals.

Frontier Forum for Digital Technology and Finance introduction

Recent years have witnessed a dramatic acceleration in a digital revolution in economic sectors and a rapid adoption of the new generation of information technologies, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, big data, etc. These technologies effectively set off the digital economy. It has become a key driving force in creating global economic growth, improving the modernization level of governance capabilities, and promoting high-quality economic development in China. In particular, digital finance is the most important part of the digital economy. To explore the development direction of the cross-integration of digital technology and finance, the Innovation and Talent Base for Digital Technology and Finance is hosting the “Frontier Forum for Digital Technology and Finance”, in collaboration with the School of Finance, Wenlan School of Business, Economics School, School of Information and Safety Engineering, School of Statistics and Mathematics, School of Public Finance and Taxation of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL). This lecture series will invite the well-known scholars at home and abroad in digital technology, digital economy, digital finance, and other related fields as guest speakers, providing an open and cutting-edge academic exchange platform for interdisciplinary research on digital technology and finance.
