Associate professor Yanan Wang, a Researcher of the base, has published a paper titled “Can the Public Data Access Facilitate Entrepreneurship? Evidence from the Registration Data of Industrial and Commercial Enterprises” in World Economic Papers.

Abstract:The opening of public data is of great significance to potential entrepreneurial groups to understand the direction of government regulation and control, and to grasp the data related to social and public interests generated by market entities in business activities. This paper uses the registration data of industrial and commercial enterprises from 2010 to 2021 to make a double difference estimation based on the policy of launching the government public data open platform. The results show that the launch of the government public data open platform significantly improves the local entrepreneurial activity, and this policy effect is more obvious in cities with a large number of platform interfaces, a large number of Internet users, and high financial information transparency. The mechanism test confirms that the opening of public data stimulates the entrepreneurial willingness of potential entrepreneurial groups by promoting the flow of factors, expanding the market size, broadening financing channels and improving the level of innovation. This paper further uses the Word2vec model to identify data-intensive and non-data-intensive enterprises and regress them by sample. It is found that after the establishment of the government public data platform, the entrepreneurial activity of data-intensive enterprises increases greater. The research conclusions of this paper have important implications for further improving the marketization mechanism of data elements, promoting the flow of data elements, and stimulating entrepreneurial vitality.
