The paper Reflections on the High-Quality Talent Development of Liberal Arts under the Background of the New Technology Revolution by Prof. Zhisheng Li, the Director of the Base, was published in the New Liberal Arts Education Research, issue 1, 2022. 

Abstract: Correctly understanding and handling the relationship between science and technology and humanities is a major issue in national social development and academic discipline construction. No matter from the perspective of theoretical logic, disciplinary development logic or historical evolution logic, scientific and technological progress is affecting the development of humanities and social sciences in an all-round way. The in-depth integration of the new generation of information technology and education and teaching has brought comprehensive challenges to talent training and education and teaching of Liberal Arts in terms of talent needs, knowledge production models, academic research paradigms, and educational and teaching scenarios. In order to cope with the new environment and challenges, the Liberal Arts must form a synergy with new technologies, center on knowledge acquisition, and adjust the concept of talent training; with the goal of cross-integration, optimizing the discipline and professional system; take digital intelligence as the starting point to improve the knowledge system of talent training; Based on integrity and innovation, build a high-quality teaching material system.

General Secretary Xi Jinping's speech at the 2014 Academician Conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences pointed out: "Since ancient times, science and technology have driven the development of human society with an irreversible and irresistible force. Since the 16th century, there have been many technological revolutions in the world, each of which has profoundly affected the pattern of world power. In a sense, the strength of science and technology determines the changes in the balance of political and economic forces in the world, as well as the future and destiny of all countries and nations.” At the same time, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the symposium on philosophy and social sciences in 2016: "Philosophy and social sciences are important tools for people to understand and transform the world, and an important force to promote historical development and social progress. Its development level reflects a nation's thinking ability, spiritual character, and civilization quality, and reflects a country's comprehensive national strength and international competitiveness.” It can be seen that how to correctly and scientifically understand and handle the relationship between science and technology and humanities has become a major issue in the current national and social development.

At present, the world is in the midst of the fourth industrial revolution. New materials, new energy, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and other new technologies are changing with each passing day, and are widely used in all aspects of economy, society, and life. They have brought profound changes in production methods, lifestyles, and governance methods, and have also brought far-reaching influence and comprehensive challenges to the development of humanities and social sciences and personnel training.
