The 35th Frontier Forum for Digital Technology and Finance was Successfully Held

On November 6, 2024, at 19:00 pm, the 35th Forum on Digital Technology and Economic Finance Frontiers was successfully held. The theme of this lecture was "Research on AI Large Model Enabling Financial text", and keynote speaker were Dr. Song Shi, technical Director of China Research Data  Service Platform, and Mr. Mingzhen Xu, lecturer of CNRDS. The lecture was chaired by Xianming Sun, Associate Professor of the Finance School and executive Deputy Director of the Innovation and Talent Base for Digital Technology and Finance. Graduate students and researchers from the School of Finance attended the lecture.

The lecture officially kicked off after Associate Professor Xianming Sun's brief opening speech.

First, Dr. Song Shi introduced the basic concepts of NLP and large models. Based on the background of the rapid development of big data and artificial intelligence models, he vividly demonstrated the extensive application of AI big models in the financial field through two specific cases——stock price prediction based on deep learning model and LAD topic model to explore the impact of medianews on inflation expectations. Secondly, Dr. Song Shi deeply analyzed the empirical research of Chinese financial text, and summarized the NLP-based financial text research into five steps: text collection, text parsing, text mining, index construction and econometric analysis. Next, Dr. Shi further introduced the characteristics and advantages of the financial text related  modules in CNRDS China Research data service platform, especially emphasized the unique advantages of CNRDS in the management research of listed companies, banking and finance research, social and economic organization research and other aspects. It also showed several databases such as news and public opinion of listed companies, text information of listed companies, and characteristics of people in the capital market. Finally, Dr.  Shi shared the relevant application scenarios of intelligent text analysis system in text research in the field of finance and economics, and pointed out that the system can effectively solve the pain points encountered by economic and management scholars in the research process.

Then, with the theme of "CNRDS data enabling innovation technology, new quality productivity, digital transformation and other research", Lecturer Mingzhen Xu introduced the company characteristic database, economic characteristic database and basic database covered by CNRDS China Research data service platform in detail. He mentioned that CNRDS has unique advantages in listed companies'operation research, banking and financial research, social and economic organization research and other aspects. Secondly, Lecturer Mingzhen Xu particularly recommended hot topics such as innovation patent research, new quality productivity and digital  economy, and elaborated on the database resources involved in these hot topics. 

Finally, Lecturer Xu summarized and answered the frequently asked questions on the use of data, which provided valuable guidance and direction for the research and application of  AI models and financial texts.Finally, the participants had a positive academic exchange with the two guests. Associate Professor Xianming Sun summarized the lecture and expressed his heartfelt thanks to the two guests for their wonderful sharing. The forum was successfully concluded.




Speaker Introduction

Song Shi, Ph.D.; Technical Director of the CNRDS Platform. With a long-term focus on research in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and credit risk, he has led his team in completing the development and design of multiple text-related modules within CNRDS. He has also spearheaded the design and development of the AITEXT intelligent text analysis system. He has applied for dozens of patents and software copyrights, achieving breakthroughs in numerous significant academic technologies, such as TB-scale sentiment recognition technology for financial big data news, deep learning, and zero-code vectorization.

Mingzhen Xu, CNRDS Lecturer. With three years of experience in financial data work, she has been responsible for over 30 data usage training sessions at universities such as Fudan University, Nankai University, and Shanghai University of International Business and Economics. She excels at analyzing trending data and empirical research, and is adept at answering various data usage questions from teachers and students.



Frontier Forum for Digital Technology and Finance introduction

Recent years have witnessed a dramatic acceleration in a digital revolution in economic sectors and a rapid adoption of the new generation of information technologies, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, big data, etc. These technologies effectively set off the digital economy. It has become a key driving force in creating global economic growth, improving the modernization level of governance capabilities, and promoting high-quality economic development in China. In particular, digital finance is the most important part of the digital economy. To explore the development direction of the cross-integration of digital technology and finance, the Innovation and Talent Base for Digital Technology and Finance is hosting the “Frontier Forum for Digital Technology and Finance”, in collaboration with the School of Finance, Wenlan School of Business, Economics School, School of Information and Safety Engineering, School of Statistics and Mathematics, School of Public Finance and Taxation of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL). This lecture series will invite the well-known scholars at home and abroad in digital technology, digital economy, digital finance, and other related fields as guest speakers, providing an open and cutting-edge academic exchange platform for interdisciplinary research on digital technology and finance.
