Abstract:
At present, digital transformation has become the strategic priority of commercial banks, but the question whether digital transformation can improve the competitiveness of banks has not been well answered, which is closely related to the lack of measurement indicators of bank digitalization. We construct a set of index system of bank digital transformation from three dimensions of strategy, business and management, measure the degree of digital transformation of Chinese commercial banks in an all-round and multi-angle, and provide new quantitative data for understanding bank digital transformation. The empirical results show that digital transformation can improve bank performance, resist the impact of new technology and promote channel transformation. Further research shows that the adoption of digital technology has a differentiated impact on bank performance. Among the different digital technologies, artificial intelligence and big data have a more significant impact, while executives with technical backgrounds in banks will also enhance the effect of digital technology adoption on performance.
