Abstract:

In this lecture, Dr. Peng Zhang will use his article published in "The Economic Journal", “Air Pollution and Manufacturing Firm Productivity: National Estimates for China,” as an example to systematically explain how to read literature, select research topics, conduct writing, submit papers, and respond to reviewer comments.

Peng Zhang is a tenured associate professor of economics at the School of Management and Economics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Development Economics, a top journal in development economics, and also as Associate Editor of the SSCI journal China Economic Review. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Young Scholar Fund from Guangdong Province. Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on environmental economics, development economics, labor economics, and health economics. His publications appear in journals such as the Journal of Political Economy Microeconomics, The Economic Journal, Journal of Public Economics (2 papers), Journal of Development Economics (9 papers), Journal of Environmental Economics and Management (3 papers), Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Nature Sustainability, The World Economy (in Chinese), and China Economic Quarterly (in Chinese). Dr. Zhang received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara in June 2016, and served as an assistant professor of economics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 2016 to 2020.
